Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) is a tax in the UK you have to pay when purchasing a property over a certain price. This Stamp Duty is charged on property purchases of houses, flats and many other land and buildings.

There are two factors the influeance the SDLT you need to pay and these are...

  • the price you paid for the property
  • the type of property: residential or commercial

It is also possible for Stamp Duty Land Tax to be due even if you lease a property.

The amount between £125,001 and £250,000 you would pay 2% = £2,500 (£ 125,000 * 0.02)
The amount between £250,001 and £925,000 you would pay 5% = £1,250 (£ 25,000 * 0.05)
Total: £3,750

House Value: £975,000

The first £125,000 you would pay 0% = £0 (£125,000 * 0)
The amount between £125,001 and £250,000 you would pay 2% = £2,500 (£ 125,000 * 0.02)
